Volunteer Positions
Function: Operates the emergency dispatch center, a fully staffed 24-hour public safety answering point that functions similarly to a 911 call center.
Establishes and maintains the on-playa communications infrastructure, including radio and IT systems, and coordinates responses between ESD and allied agencies like law enforcement and Black Rock Rangers.
Function: Provides fire protection and other specialized emergency services.
Responds to vehicle and building fires, manages hazardous materials incidents, performs technical rescues, and supports large art burns as a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT).
Function: Delivers emergency and non-emergency medical services.
Clinic based or QRV’s- quick-response vehicles and personnel, similar to a municipal EMS system, to provide rapid first-response medical care across Black Rock City.
Function: Provides mental health and crisis intervention services.
Deploys mental health professionals to psychiatric emergencies, provides advocacy for victims of domestic and sexual violence, and offers critical incident stress management.
Function: Handles the material and logistical needs of the department
Logistics also includes the courtesy shuttle to transport people back to their camp . This a a great option for non medical certification volunteers.
